Chapter Glossary
Aesthetics A branch of philosophy that explores questions about beauty and its value.
Ethics A branch of philosophy that deals with what is morally good and with moral principles.
Epistemology Literally, “the study of knowledge [from the Gr. epistēmē].” The methods, validity, and scope of the theory of knowledge, including the distinction between justified belief and opinion.
Logic A branch of philosophy that deals with the principles of proof and inference.
Metaphysics A branch of philosophy that deals with non-material, abstract concepts such as being, knowing, identity, time, and space.
Philosophy From the Greek, “the love of wisdom,” the study of the nature of knowledge, reality, and existence.
