Lección 5: Los verbos regulares
La conjugación
As you have seen, Spanish verbs end in -ar, -er, and -ir, for example hablar, beber, and escribir. This is the simplest form of a verb and is called an infinitive. Just as you have learned to conjugate the verbs ser and tener, these verbs can also be conjugated. Notice that all the verbs above end in -o. That’s because the subject is yo.
hablar | beber | escribir | |
---|---|---|---|
yo | hablo | bebo | escribo |
tú | hablas | bebes | escribes |
él, ella, usted | habla | bebe | escribe |
nosotros/as | hablamos | bebemos | escribimos |
vosotros/as | habláis | bebéis | escribís |
ellos, ellas, ustedes | hablan | beben | escriben |
Watch this video for a simple explanation of how to conjugate regular verbs.
La negación
To say that you don’t do something, the word no is placed in front of the conjugated verb.

Preguntas
To create a simple yes/no question, it is not necessary to add a helping word. Simply change the intonation of your voice, raising it at the end. If there is a subject, it is placed after the verb.
