Lección 2: Expresar posición con preposiciones
To tell where things are located, use the verb hay or estar.
| Español | English |
|---|---|
| Estoy en casa. | I am at home. |
| Mis hijos están en el colegio. | My children are in school. |
| Hay un parque cerca del colegio. | There is a park near the school. |
The following words are prepositions and are used to tell where things are located.
| Preposiciones | Prepositions |
|---|---|
| a la derecha (de) | to the right (of) |
| a la izquierda (de) | to the left (of) |
| al lado (de) | beside, next (to) |
| arriba (de) | above |
| cerca (de) | near |
| debajo (de) | below |
| delante (de) | in front (of), ahead of |
| detrás (de) | behind |
| en | on, in, at |
| encima (de) | on, on top (of) |
| enfrente (de) | in front of, facing |
| entre…y… | between…and… |
| lejos (de) | far (from) |
Notice that most of the prepositions include the word de. You will remember from Módulo 4 that when using de in front of the masculine article el, it forms the contraction del (de + el = del). It does not contract with any other article (la, los, las).
