The verb ir is used with the preposition a to tell where someone is going. Note that a + el forms the contraction al. There is no contraction with the other articles (la, los, las).
To ask where someone is going, you will need to use adónde.

Vamos a la tienda. | We are going to the store. |
Expresar el futuro con el vero ir
To express something that someone is going to do, use the formula.
ir + a + infinitivo
