Overview
We are in the final step in the research and writing process for our final project: revision. You have feedback from your peers and your instructor – now what?
Drafting and Revising
There are five stages in the writing process. Your first stage is receiving the prompt from your professor. The second stage is inventing, where you pick the topic for your assignment. The third stage is drafting, where you put your ideas on paper. We are in the fourth stage: revising, where you polish your draft into a final version. This video provides you with tools on how to move from the revising stage to your final product.
Cutting Content
Part of the writing process is cutting the parts of your papers that do not “fit” with your thesis and arguments. This can be a painful part of the process, but it is essential. There are two types of cuts: higher-order and lower-order. This video provides you with tools on how to make cuts to strengthen your writing.
Revisions
This video interviews professional authors on the processes they use when revising their writing. They reinforce that good writing goes through multiple versions before it is finished.
