CCCOnline Teaching Excellence
CCCOnline’s Teaching Excellence program is designed to ensure a high-quality course experience for students through the regular and consistent evaluation of our courses. Below are some important facts and frequently asked questions about CCCOnline’s Teaching Excellence Program.
Teaching Excellence and Performance Evaluations FAQs
1. Who is evaluated and when?
Everyone teaching for CCCOnline is evaluated at least once a year; in addition:
- New instructors will have their courses evaluated the first two semesters they teach for CCCOnline.
- Instructors who receive a Needs Improvement: Not Proficient on any area of the report will be evaluated the following semester.
- Department Chairs or Associate Deans may request a Teaching Excellence Review of any instructor at any time.
Performance evaluations are completed from midterm until the end of the semester. Current instructors may access their reviews by logging in to the D2L class Teaching Excellence Reviews.
2. What are the criteria I must follow to meet expectations?
The Teaching Excellence rubric shows criteria in detail.
3. Where can I find my evaluations once they are complete?
Current instructors may access their reviews by logging in to the D2L class Teaching Excellence Reviews. (This class is available only to instructors who are actively teaching.) If instructors cannot see their reviews, this means those classes have not been up for review yet. Instructors may contact their DC with related questions.
4. Where can I find help improving my skills and better understanding the rubric?
In addition to individual consultations with Department Chairs, the Managing Discussions course explores more about discussions, and you may refer to the Closing the Loop Kit and browse our Webinar Archives for extra assistance.
5. What does the Teaching Excellence review mean to my professional development and employment status?
A Teaching Excellence review, or performance evaluation, should be a communication tool between the instructor and Department Chair. It is used in mentoring, and may be used, at the Department Chair’s discretion, to determine course assignments.
6. Whom should I contact with questions about Teaching Excellence evaluations and all other class management issues?
Such questions from the instructor always should be directed to the Department Chair.
7. Where can I learn more about Teaching Excellence and about discussion strategies?
Your Department Chair is available to answer any questions about the Teaching Excellence procedures. In addition, CCCOnline’s Professional Development division offers several workshops and webinars to help instructors develop their skills facilitating discussions. You can find a current listing of PD offerings at the Professional Development database.
